The person undergoing this therapy lies on the wooden plank, and medicated oil is poured on his body along with gentle massage. It prevents skin aging and in relieving anxiety, stress, and depression.
In Kizhi, heated oil, herbs and powder is tied into a small muslin bag or Potli. These bags are placed on the body using a varying degree of pressure for the different body parts with its special focus on the nerve points. Then, a healing massage is done using the palms and the fingers. The fingers and palms apply controlled pressure on the specific areas. Navarakizhi is a special type of Kizhi that is useful in regulating blood pressure and cholesterol levels. It is also useful in the treatment of sore muscles, paralysis, arthritis and muscular pain.
It involves the process of retaining a specific amount of lukewarm herbal oil on a particular area of the body for a fixed duration. The oil is kept in a receptacle made of urad dal paste. The therapy rejuvenates the body from within.
