If you’re struggling with chronic skin issues, persistent acne, hair fall, or scalp imbalance, we’re here to help you understand the right path.
Conventional dermatology primarily addresses the skin as an external organ — treating symptoms with topical applications, medications, or procedures. Ayurveda understands the skin as a direct reflection of internal health. Most chronic skin conditions — persistent acne, eczema, psoriasis, pigmentation, hair fall — are rooted in digestive imbalance, accumulated toxins (Ama), liver function, hormonal disruption, or an aggravated Pitta or Vata. At Athreya, skin and hair treatment begins from the inside — correcting the internal environment that is producing the external symptom. Topical therapies support this process, but they are never the primary treatment.
Athreya’s skin care programmes address a wide range of conditions including chronic acne and acne scarring, eczema and atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, urticaria (hives), pigmentation disorders, rosacea, dry and flaking skin, fungal skin conditions, and premature skin ageing. Each condition is assessed through the lens of the individual’s Prakriti, dominant dosha imbalance, digestive health, and lifestyle — and treatment is designed accordingly. There are no one-size-fits-all protocols at Athreya. Your skin condition is treated as an expression of your unique internal state.
This is one of the most common reasons international guests come to Athreya — years of steroid creams, antihistamines, and dermatologist visits with limited or temporary results. Psoriasis and eczema are conditions where Ayurveda has a well-documented approach, rooted in deep detoxification and gut-skin restoration. Panchakarma — particularly Virechana (therapeutic purgation) and Vamana (emesis therapy) — combined with specific internal herbal preparations and dietary correction, addresses the systemic imbalance driving these conditions. Results vary by individual and severity, but many guests with chronic, treatment-resistant cases experience significant improvement.
Depending on your condition and physician assessment, your programme may include Virechana or Vamana for deep detoxification of skin-related toxins; Takradhara — medicated buttermilk poured over the body and scalp — particularly effective for psoriasis and inflammatory skin conditions; Nasya for scalp and hair health; medicated herbal oil applications for hair loss and scalp conditions; Lepa — customised herbal paste applications for localised skin issues; and internal herbal medicines targeting digestive and liver function. Every therapy combination is individually prescribed — not selected from a standard skin package.
Yes. Hair fall in Ayurveda is most commonly linked to excess Pitta — heat and inflammation in the system — combined with nutritional depletion and impaired circulation to the scalp. Premature greying is similarly associated with Pitta aggravation and liver health. Athreya’s hair care programme combines internal herbal medicines that address the root imbalance, medicated oil therapies applied to the scalp, Nasya treatments that nourish the hair follicles through nasal administration, and dietary corrections that reduce Pitta and support hair-supportive nutrition. Results are gradual but cumulative — noticeable improvement is typically seen over 6–8 weeks, with continued progress in months following treatment.
For most skin conditions, a minimum of 14 days is needed for the body to complete an initial detoxification phase and begin responding to internal correction. Chronic or long-standing conditions — psoriasis, eczema, severe hair fall — benefit significantly from 21–28 day programmes, which allow for deeper tissue-level work and a more complete reset of the gut-skin axis. The right duration will be recommended based on your physician’s assessment of your condition’s severity and chronicity.
Yes. All therapies and herbal preparations at Athreya are prescribed by qualified physicians who review your skin type, current condition, and any known sensitivities before treatment begins. Medicated oils and herbal formulations used at Athreya are prepared using classical methods — without synthetic additives, harsh chemicals, or artificial fragrances. Patch testing is performed where indicated. Guests with highly sensitive or reactive skin are assessed carefully, and treatment intensity is calibrated to what your skin can receive without aggravation.
Yes — and this is where the real transformation happens. Athreya’s in-centre programme initiates the healing process; your post-departure protocol sustains and deepens it. You will leave with specific dietary guidelines, a daily skincare routine using Ayurvedic principles, herbal medicines for continued internal treatment, and guidance on lifestyle factors — sun exposure, sleep, stress management — that directly affect skin and hair health. Guests who follow their aftercare plan consistently report continued improvement for 3–6 months after their stay. Skin and hair healing through Ayurveda is a process, not a procedure.
