The story of Athreya begins in Vagasheri, where our family lived generations ago. According to family tradition, a Lada Guru of the Lada Parampara came to Vagasheri and stayed with the family. He shared his knowledge of medicine and left behind palm-leaf manuscripts describing the uses of medicines, which the family still preserves today.
From this beginning, the knowledge was carried forward for 180 years through six generations: from learning to practice, from practice to service, and from one generation to the next.
This is not just a family tree. It is a Legacy Tree, a timeline of the physicians and healers whose work laid the foundation for Athreya’s philosophy today.

2nd Generation — Kochunarayanapillai Vaidyan

His nephew, Kochunarayanapillai Vaidyan, practised in the same tradition. For him, medicine was a service to people rather than a means of earning.

3rd Generation — Madhavanpillai Vaidyan (1921)
From home medicine to a dedicated pharmacy.
As the city grew, Madhavanpillai Vaidyan founded Sree Narayana Vilasam Balakrishna Pharmacy (S.N.V.) in 1921. This was the family’s move from medicines made at home to a dedicated pharmacy.
